The basics
What is Mission Assistant in Aplos?
Mission Assistant is an AI-powered chat experience inside Aplos that helps you ask questions in plain language and get conversational help based on the information available in your account. Mission Assistant is continually evolving, and the range of questions it can help with is expanding over time.
What can I ask it?
You can explore the information already available in your Aplos account and ask about your organization’s finances and activity. Coverage continues to grow as Mission Assistant evolves, so the questions it can help with keep expanding. Example questions:
- “What were our expenses last month?”
- “How much has been spent from a specific fund this year?”
- “Are we tracking over or under budget?”
- “What is our current financial position?”
You can also ask follow-up questions to narrow an answer, compare time periods, or better understand what you’re seeing in your reports.
How do I get started?
Look for the pink button in the bottom-right corner of any screen in Aplos. Click it to open the Mission Assistant chat. From there you can ask questions, use the suggested questions, and open relevant reports directly from the chat when you want to review the underlying details. You can minimize the window and keep working in Aplos while it processes your request.
Do I need to turn it on?
No. Mission Assistant is available within all Aplos accounts with a Core or Advanced subscription, and no action is needed to enable it.
Who in my organization can use it?
Everyone within an Aplos account has access to Mission Assistant. The data shown to each user is based on their current permission level in Aplos.
Scope & limitations
What can’t Mission Assistant do?
- It’s read-only. It helps you understand and access reporting data — it does not create, modify, delete, or approve accounting records.
- It doesn’t replace your financial review process. It helps you get oriented faster and points you toward the right reports, but you should review the underlying reports and source data before making financial decisions.
- Its answers are grounded in the information available in your Aplos account. Coverage is still expanding, so some questions may not be answerable yet.
It’s in beta — what does that mean for me?
Mission Assistant is still being actively improved. Minor errors, incomplete answers, or unexpected behavior may happen as we learn from customer usage and feedback. Please review the underlying reports and use your own judgment before making financial decisions. Your feedback during beta helps shape how Mission Assistant supports nonprofit finance workflows over time.
How Mission Assistant uses your organization’s data
What data does it use?
Mission Assistant answers your questions using the information already in your Aplos account. You don’t need to upload or re-enter anything — it works with what’s already there. As Mission Assistant evolves, the information it can draw on continues to expand.
Does it respect user permissions?
Yes. The data shown to each user is based on their current permission level in Aplos, so people only see information they already have access to in their account.
Does it change any of my data?
No. Mission Assistant is read-only. It reads your account data to answer questions and point you to relevant reports, but it does not create, modify, delete, or approve accounting records.
Can I trust its answers?
Mission Assistant is designed to ground its answers in your own account data and to point you back to the underlying reports so you can verify what you’re seeing. Because it’s in beta, please review the underlying source data before making financial decisions.
Is my organization’s data used to train AI models?
No. Your organization’s data is not used to train, fine-tune, or improve AI models. This follows Velora’s AI Statement, which commits that customer and donor data is never used to train AI models.
Mission Assistant vs. support chat
How is this different from the support chat?
Mission Assistant is separate from the support chat. A quick rule of thumb:
- Questions about your data → Mission Assistant
- Questions about using the product, troubleshooting, or contacting support → Support chat (in your left-hand navigation menu)
What’s next
Is this all Mission Assistant will do?
No. Mission Assistant in Aplos is an early step in a larger vision: over time it’s planned to become a broader AI-powered experience across Velora products, helping nonprofit teams find answers, understand trends, and move through key workflows more easily across the tools they already use.
